I went to an endocrinologist back in the summer for hyperthyroid problems that my family doctor called subclinical hyperthyroid. She was ok but really did not seem to listen to me and I left there feeling somewhat down after finally getting an appointment to be left still not knowing anything. Well to make a long story short blood levels of TPO were 52 with the normals 0-32 and TSI 116 with the normals less than 130. She basically told me my thyroid is functioning normally. Now my hair is falling out and I am having tremendous joint and muscle pain. I went to a rhematologist (hoping he could help with autoimmune problem) and he told me I had fibromyalgia and prescribed an antidepressant and told me to lose some weight. I lost almost 20 pounds this summer but now it has come back with more. My family doctor thinks it is still a thyroid problem but she has been taken off my insurance and you know how that is. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on? I have not had a tsh or free t4 in a while. I really don't want to start the effexor.

    • I would start by having the thyroid checked again. Get not only TSH and Free T4 but also Free T3 and have the antibodies checked again. Fibromyalgia type symptoms are a lot of times is caused by a non treated or undertreated thyroid problem, so before medicating for that, I'd get the thyroid checked. Hair loss and muscle/joint pain are also symptoms of a thyroid problem.

      Keep us posted please.
